Kate Finan began her professional career as an assistant engineer in the music industry but quickly shifted her focus to the post-production world of sound. Using her audio engineering skills as a jumping off point, Kate chose to pursue a career as a sound effects editor for television. Over the next ten years, she worked her way up to garnering a coveted position as a supervising sound editor at Warner Bros. Studios. There, she oversaw the full post-production sound process for numerous animated television series.
In 2015, Kate started Boom Box Post, a boutique post-production sound studio located in Burbank, CA, with co-owner Jeff Shiffman. At Boom Box Post, both Kate and Jeff lead crews comprised of sound designers, re-recording mixers, dialogue editors, and foley personnel to create an individualized and comprehensive sound package for animated television series. In addition to her duties as owner and supervising sound editor, she has also recently taken on the role of re-recording mixer.
In the past year, Kate and Jeff have launched an additional venture, Boom Box Library, which creates custom-recorded and -designed sound effect libraries for purchase as well as software to aid in the sound design process, which they call “sound design toolkits.”
During the course of her career, Kate has been nominated for five Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild Golden Reel Awards, two Music + Sound Awards, and one Daytime Emmy.
